Fulfillment Is An Inside Job

Fulfillment is an inside job.

Sometimes I crave adventure. Newness. Spontaneity. Carefree & wildness.

Sometimes I crave big, bold, beautiful & abundance.

Sometimes I crave quiet. Solitude. Ease and simplicity.

Sometimes I crave deep connection. Community. Thought provoking conversations.

Sometimes I can crave all of that, and more, in one day.

I notice that when I am craving something, it's typically because I haven't given myself the very thing I need.

I am off balance. Out of alignment. Focused elsewhere.

It's so easy to get caught up in the to-do list, carpooling and making dinner and running a business.

It's easy to be on autopilot, not giving thought to what I need at a soul-filling level. Not what I have to do, but rather what I am feeling called towards.

Clues that I am heading in the wrong direction show up as boredom, restlessness, caginess, irritability & overstimulation.

That's when I check in on what I am craving and make a detour.

I believe that creating a fulfilling life is giving ourselves what we need and crave - and it's usually in small ways that don't require a ton of planning, money or time.

If I need adventure, I can go hiking in a new location or try out a new coffee shop.

If I need solitude, I can simply let my family know I'll be soaking away in the tub for an hour or will be meditating.

If I need deep connection, I know who to reach out to for those type of conversations.

If I am feeling spontaneous, I can shoot a text to friends for a night out or try a new restaurant.

I know when I lay my head down at night, take a deep breathe and feel like the world's just right (even when it certainly isn't), it's because I've given myself what I need.

How do you measure your level of fulfillment?
